Nike ESP was a revolutionary in-shoe sensing platform that enabled live training and performance feedback. Leading up to the Nike+ ESP launch at the Olympic Games I ran a study to better understand users' perceptions and experiences of the ESP Training "drill pack" workouts.
The study findings strongly indicated that more balance was needed between grueling drill sets and reaction/speed tests to drive higher engagement throughout the workout and across the drill pack training regimen. These changes were made ahead of the Olympics product launch.
The final report outlined the dichotomy between difficult, prescriptive drills and fun, reactionary drills, with an emphasis on striking a balance in every drill pack.
The data were strong enough to justify altering the drill content to strike more balance between grueling endurance and power enhancing sets and reaction-speed tests to drive higher engagement throughout the workout and across the drill pack training regimen. These changes were made ahead of product launch.
